"I'm On My Way" by Earl Dwayne (R&B Artist from New Jersey(NJ))

"I'm On My Way" is the latest album released by the talented vocalist Earl Dwayne. It is an album that features Dwayne in a variety of slick and crisp sounding Urban R&B/Soul tracks. The track, "Never Say Never" Dwayne shows off his vocal abilities in an emotionally charged slow jam. On the title track, "I'm On My Way" Dwayne keeps the tempo to a slower pace, but it's a song delivered in a more relaxed and jubilant manner while the lyrics are tender and sincere The song, "Persuasion" lets things quicken a little bit in a lively and jumpy number with a beat reminiscent of the mid 90's west-coast sound. This album is perfect for those who enjoy Contemporary R&B/Soul with a focus on a strong male vocalist. Fans of Luther Vandros or Baby Face should definitely be open to listening to "I'm On My Way" by Earl Dwayne.

"Other People's Stories" by Teira Doom (R&B Artist from Los Angeles, California(CA))

"Other People's Stories" by the talented artist Teira Doom is simply some silky smooth R&B/Soul. She uses heavy R&B influences in her vocal styles as well as with her instrumentation. Doom also displays her creativity as she implements a chorus of voices that alternates with the bright and crisp piano chords in the stirring song "Break Me Off." The track "Finding Home," is a slow, heartfelt track, which gives Doom a chance to really show off her vocals prowess with stunning vocal range and tonality. "Other People's Stories" is a great album for any fan of R&B/Soul, urban grooves, or strong female vocals and is well worth listening to.

"All Night Blue" by Paul Tobin (R&B Artist from Saskatchewan, Canada)

"All Night Blue" by Paul Tobin is a well-mixed, great sounding, and edgy Urban Folk/Soul album. Tobin claims to be a fan of Johnny Cash and it shows, not in his style but in his voice and wandering soul. He does cover the classic "Walk the Line" but the slower, acoustic track has such a different tone and a great harmony that Tobin made it a song all his own. He even tries out some old roots Blues on the track "How Come" and grabs the listener with his strong soulful voice. Another notable track is the story-telling tune "Time Flies" as Tobin shows off his melodic vocals with heartfelt tenderness. "All Night Blue" is a well-crafted Urban Folk/Soul album with just enough edge to please fans of Bruce Cockburn and Johnny Cash and is well worth hearing.

"Plunky & Oneness 2012 Collectors' Box Set" by Plunky & Oneness (R&B Artist from Virginia(VA))

Plunky & Oneness struck gold with their CD release, "Plunky & Oneness 2012 Collectors' Box Set." This is a greatest hits compilation that takes cuts off their 12 full albums recorded between 1988 and 2008. The smartest move was putting the compilations onto 5 separate CDs, each genre-specific. The first half of the compilation is a lot more groovy and relaxed. For instance, "Forever In A Moment" (from the 'Love Songs' CD) is a great mood-setter with good, slow rhythms and expert saxophone. But my favorite part of the box-set has to be the 4th CD,'P Phunk.' These tracks have a lot of flavor, and vocals with feeling. "Got To Move Something" is an especially good example of the funky beats Plunky has to offer. Having this collector's CD box set is like having a well-oiled machine helping you pick the perfect mood. Whether you want urban groove, cool jazz, love songs, hard-core funk, or Afro world, Plunky & Oneness are here to help with "Plunky & Onesness 2012 Collectors' Box Set."

"Sleep When I Die" by L'NEE (R&B Artist from California(CA))

L'NEE's latest release is called, "Sleep When I Die," an appropriate title since one senses this girl would definitely choose the dance floor over her bed. L'NEE'S CD is a blend of urban R&B, Hip-Hop, and Reggaeton, all produced for loud playback to keep your hips shaking and feet moving. In "Dj Make Em Move," L'NEE sings her story in a clear and poppy style over a gritty and aggressive Reggaeton beat. For "Sleep When I Die," the album's title track, we get to hear her rhyming skills as she raps about her career over a stomping hip-hop instrumental. On "Chilly," L'NEE shows off her vocal talents, singing over a more reserved urban R&B rhythm (but one that is still very danceable). At times this CD reminds one of old TLC, as L'NEE likes to employ some 90's style sounds which she combines with her modern edge. For people who enjoy dance parties, or maybe just making their car feel like a club, L'NEE's "Sleep When I Die" CD just might be something you would enjoy.

"Another Tyme" by Movin' Melvin Brown (R&B Artist from Texas(TX))

"Another Tyme" by Movin' Melvin Brown is an upbeat collection of songs that will keep your body moving and grooving. This album takes Bluesy vocals and puts them inside songs of all different genres including Jazz, Country, New Age, and Reggae. Of course the roots show through with tracks like "She Didn't Doit" and "Let's Get Together And Love." But Brown shows his uniqueness and strength as a creative songwriter with the lively song "She Don't Know About My Love." And if you're looking for some familiarity, try the excellent cover of "Dock Of The Bay." Overall, "Another Tyme" is a great album if you love Blues vocals, a Country guitar, and an upbeat rhythm.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Fred Nash with a GrIndie Award for the CD "TryingTo Find My Way "

RadioIndy is pleased to present Fred Nash with a GrIndie Award for the CD "TryingTo Find My Way "

Not that it matters, but the fact that Fred Nash's high tenor voice, which bears a resemblance to "I Can See Clearly Now" artist Johnny Nash, can't help but make a listener wonder if Fred is an offspring of the highly acclaimed former hit maker and impresario. That his CD-single, "Trying To Find My Way" has a similar soulful pop feel (albeit, without the reggae flavor), buoyed by an engaging, instantly captivating melody, only adds to the mystery. Regardless, "Trying To Find My Way," with its tasty, Steve Cropper-like guitar accompaniment accenting a spare, church-like arrangement, is a veritable throwback to an era when artists such as Nash, James, and Bobby were fashioning a crossover sound out of melding pop and soul sensibilities. Spiritual and meaningful, "Trying to Find My Way" is a fine debut CD-single from an artist who is likely to command attention not for his name, but for his escalating talent.

"Portraits From A Storm" by Aloa Harris (R&B Artist from The Bahamas)

"Portraits From A Storm" by Aloa Harris is a rich, groovy R&B/Contemporary/ Inspirational CD. The vocals of this seasoned artist are powerful and sultry while the lyrics truly are uplifting and encouraging. Each track lays down a fresh beat and the CD ranges in style from classic 70's, to R&B, a Gospel influence, and even a splash of Reggae. "In My Storm" utilizes a motivating beat and excellent harmonizing background vocals done by the artist herself as well as double lead vocals. The Caribbean-influenced "Pass the Word (feat. Monty G)" adds a different flavor to the CD with its spiritual lyrics and reggae style and grace. Altogether, this album serves as a full musical experience for R&B lovers and is well worth hearing.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Emilio Palame Band with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Be Who You Are "

Urbane and sophisticated, Emilio Palame Band's "Be Who You Are" CD is a smart collection of contemporary R&B trading funk grooves with interludes of traditional jazz piano spread over 23 tracks of pure musicality. Boasting influences that range from the lyricism of Billy Strayhorn to the dynamism of Earth, Wind & Fire; "Be Who You Are" is a throwback to an era when musical prowess trumped the constraints of genres and target audiences. On "Runaway" the Palame band invokes a subtle Latin vibe that recalls Chicago (the group), while the brilliant pianism on "Emily's Dancing Eyes" is but a backdrop to an R&B workout showcasing the bands elastic and nuanced dexterity. Where "Piano Prelude to We Are Love" finds pianist Palame beautifully exploring the richness of Bill Evans-like jazz piano, the electric keys of the full-band version of "We Are Love" swing it in a Stevie Wonder-like direction that smoothly melds the background chorus in grand harmonic convergence. The charged and dynamic "New Day" gives this amazing band a chance to flex its considerable muscle revealing, if nothing else, how the 1-2 punch of great charts in the hands of polished musicians can unlock the oft-hidden depths a song contains. But whether it's straight-up funk, '70's-grounded R&B, or the classically melodic jazz at the heart of Emilio Palame's artistry, "Be Who You Are" is a CD that succeeds because it pays tribute to its influences by invigorating the artistry that fueled them.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Vick Allen with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Truth Be Told... "

RadioIndy is pleased to present Vick Allen with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Truth Be Told... "

Sequencing a full-length CD is an art unto itself and the best kept secret to making a solid album. As important as it is to stack strong tracks near the beginning of an album, it's often those last one or two songs that make the difference in getting a listener to come back again and again. R&B hit- maker, Vick Allen, and his newest CD "Truth Be Told…" is an 11-song Urban / R&B treasure, and is a perfect example of getting it right. Opening with the appropriately titled "I'm Hooked," an up tempo, Al Green-like groove punctuated by Memphis-style horn bursts, Allen sets the tone for the diverse platter of R&B that follows. "You Stay On My Mind" is an inspired piece of infectious Southern Soul, while "Forbidden Love Affair" finds Allen revealing his inner R. Kelly; and "As Long As I Got My Baby" serves up a dash of funk, it is followed by the completely contemporary soul of "I Know You Got a Man." Regardless of style, though, "Truth Be Told…" is seamless and cohesive, linked as it were by inventive and smart arrangements, superb musicianship, and the kind of background vocals that defines great Urban music and, of course, Allen's smooth high tenor, a voice that alternately echoes Green, as well as lesser known R&B luminaries like Eddie Kendricks, Tyrone Davis or Howard Tate. But it's the CD closer, "That's Heaven to Me", a solemn and uplifting Sam Cooke cover with the kind of message and melody Stevie Wonder later perfected on songs like "Heaven Help Us All" that seals the deal and will ensure repeated listens. Sequenced for maximum effect and filled with classic R&B grooves from beginning to end, Vick Allen's "Truth Be Told…" CD is a terrific album and a welcome addition to the Soul field.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Skip Mahoney and The Casuals with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Chocolate Brides Theme Song"

Layered, smooth-as-chocolate-silk harmonies are the order of the day on Skip Mahoney and the Casuals' 5-track CD, "Chocolate Brides Theme Song," an impeccable R&B ballad as old school as it is modern. Romantic and affirmative, and timeless in its celebration of love and marriage, "Chocolate Brides" is - as its name implies, a unique and soulful paean to the 21st century African-American bride. Delivering five different remixes, Skip Mahoney & the Casuals offer one performance specifically tailored to the old school crowd, another featuring the vocal group S.O.L.E. that's geared to the contemporary R&B fan, one with S.O.L.E.'s neo-soul flourishes, plus two instrumental versions perfect for the dance floor. On all three of the vocal renditions, however, Mahoney's splendid tenor and flights of falsetto proves the perfect foil for group harmonies that recall such R&B stalwarts as The O'Jays or The Spinners. As each generation produces its own particular wedding songs, Skip Mahoney and the Casuals' CD, "Chocolate Brides Theme Song," just might be the perfect wedding disc for the contemporary African-American couple wanting to add a special – chocolate – flavor to their nuptials.

"Digital Museum" by Jay Jai (R&B Artist from California(CA))

"Digital Museum," the new 7-song digital-only release from Jay Jai, is a smooth and polished R&B collection showcasing a singer with all the seductive powers of the genre's great crooners. With beats and tunes as fresh as they are danceable, Jay Jai's contemporary R&B style (think Ne-Yo, The Dream, and Chris Brown) is a sexy mix that will open ears as surely as it turns heads. Exhorting his ladies with the skills of a true playa, "Slow Step" and "Dress You" virtually boil over with the singer's come-on, while "After Party," an infectious piece of nasty-as-we-wanna-be bravado - with a groove to match, is contemporary soul at its down and dirty best. The fine ballad, "Particular," has a solemn feel that shows Jay Jai's emotional range to fine effect, suggesting there is a lot more depth to be revealed as the singer continues to grow and mature as an artist. As perfect for the dance floor as it is for intimate moments, Jay Jai's "Digital Museum" is sure to please contemporary R&B/Urban Pop fans with its sweet, seductive, and brazenly insistent grooves.

Rising star Nypoleon and his CD "The Warm Up" is an amazing debut filled with soulful R&B and is guaranteed to make a big impact on the music scene. His influences stem from Boyz II Men to Michael Jackson, helping create his unique songwriting which blends old school R&B with Hip- Hop and Reggae. "One Last Time" highlights Nypoleon's smooth vocal performance and his ability to fuse his influential genres, creating a tone that is somewhere between Ne-Yo and Bob Marley. On "Always Be Around," his R&B side shines brightly and once again gives us another standout vocal track. "Soul Complete" by Cagle & Nash (R&B Artist from North Carolina(NC))

Cagle & Nash serve up some delightful, easy listening R&B/jazz songs on their newest release "Soul Complete." This delectable disc features a collection of well written lyrics of love lost and found while showcasing lead vocals that are solid and well polished. The music flows with style and never falters while delivering the sounds of blues and the relaxing, fresh touch of R&B. An outstanding horn riff highlights "December" while the flute adds a soft and graceful touch. Another track which emphasizes the horn is "Information" as the solo is clean and crisp. Take note of the smooth and dynamic balance of harmonies with guest female vocalists on songs such as "Anywhere You Wanna Go" or "And Suddenly." If you like the songs of Steely Dan or Michael Buble, then "Soul Complete" is the next album you will want to hear.

The track "How Are You" has a great Lionel Richie feel in the vocal tonality and a very smooth beat keeping the groove. If you want to hear Durbin's reggae influence look no further than "We Are Honestmen" a song written about an everyday man trying to make it in the world. RadioIndy is pleased to present Johnny "T" Thompson with a GrIndie Award for the CD "From the Poor Side of Town"

International soul and rhythm & blues recording artist Johnny "T" Thompson performs a superb collection of singles on his latest album "From the Poor Side of Town." This album is welded together with artistic arrangements which capture the feel of rhythmic blues. Thompson's vocals flow gently into your ears with his mesmerizing and soulful tone. His vocals are also complemented with an outstanding group of musicians. Take note of the big brass sounds as heard on "Pull Your Chain of Love" or "Mind Your Business" which really adds flavor to this style of music. "Giving Up on Love" is a wonderful ballad featuring electric piano, subtle guitar, and sweet harmonies. Revealing soulful hues of rhythm & blues, "From the Poor Side of Town" is an album well worth hearing, especially if you're a fan of Otis Clay or Willie Clayton.

"The Return Of Funk" by Dane Riley (R&B Artist from Washington D.C.(DC))

Multi-talented solo artist, Dane Riley, has released a new and exciting album titled "The Return Of Funk." Not only does Riley perform on this album, but he also produced, arranged, and composed the entire album. The hours of production time have really paid off with well-balanced vocals and instrumentations. Hints of the musical styles of Prince can be heard on such tracks as "What's My Name?" and "I Came To Party." Riley's lead vocals on the title track "The Return Of Funk" really shine, but he does a great job with the background harmonies as well. Groove to the steady beats of the drums and subtle strings while listening to the slow and moving R&B tune "Meant 2 Be." If you're in the mood for a little R&B or funk then Dane Riley's "The Return Of Funk" is a must-have addition to your CD collection.
